ecclesia song

We are called to faith, gathered in love
Sent with hope to change the world
We are called to faith, gathered in love
ecclesia, ecclesia, Church at the Chip

   Called to Faith, Gathered in Love,
   Sent with Hope – ecclesia!

Psalm 35

1 Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me;
    fight against those who fight against me!
2 Take hold of shield and buckler
    and rise for my help!
3 Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers!
    Say to my soul, "I am your salvation!"

4 Let them be put to shame and dishonor who seek after my life!
    Let them be turned back and disappointed who devise evil against me!
5 Let them be like chaff before the wind,
    with the angel of the Lord driving them away!
6 Let their way be dark and slippery,
    with the angel of the Lord pursuing them!

7 For without cause they hid their net for me;
     without cause they dug a pit for my life.
8 Let destruction come upon him when he does not know it!
    And let the net that he hid ensnare him; let him fall into it-to his destruction!

9 Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord,
    exulting in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, "O Lord, who is like you, delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him,
    the poor and needy from him who robs him?"

11 Malicious witnesses rise up;
   they ask me of things that I do not know.
12 They repay me evil for good;
   my soul is bereft.
13 But I, when they were sick- I wore sackcloth;
   I afflicted myself with fasting; I prayed with head bowed on my chest.
14 I went about as though I grieved for my friend or my brother;
   as one who laments his mother, I bowed down in mourning.

15 But at my stumbling they rejoied and gathered; they gathered together against me;
   wretches whom I did not know tore at me without ceasing;
16 like profane mockers at a feast,
   they gnash at me with their teeth.

17 How long, O Lord, will you look on?
   Rescue me from their destruction, my precious life from the lions!
18 I will thank you in the great congregation;
   in the mighty throng I will praise you.

19 Let not those rejoice over me who are wrongfully my foes,
   and let not those wink they eye who hate me without cause.
20 For they do not speak peace,
   but against those who are quiet in the land they devise words of deceit.
21 They open wide their mouths against me;
   they say, "Aha, Aha! Our eyes have seen it!"

22 You have seen, O Lord; be not silent!
   O Lord, be not far from me!

23 Awake and rouse yourself for my vindication,
   for my cause, my God and my Lord!
24 Vindicate me, O Lord, my God,
   according to your righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me!
25 Let them not say in their hearts, "Aha, our heart's desire!"
   Let them not say, "We have swallowed him up."

26 Let them be put to shame and disappointed altogether who rejoice at my calamity!
   Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me!

27 Let those who delight in my righteousness shout for joy and be glad and say evermore,
   "Great is the Lord, who delights in the welfare of his servant!"
28 Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness
   and of your praise all the day long.

Come People of the Risen King

Come, people of the risen King
Who delight to bring him praise
Come all and tune your hearts to sing
To the morning star of grace
From the shifting shadows of the earth
We will lift our eyes to him
Where steady arms of mercy reach
To gather children in

   Rejoice, rejoice
   Let every tongue rejoice
   One heart, one voice
   Church at the Chip, rejoice!

Come those whose joy is morning sun
And those weeping through the night
Come those who tell of battles won
And those struggling in the fight
For his perfect love will never change
And his mercies never cease
But follow us through all our days
With the certain hope of peace

   Chorus

Come, young and old from every land
Men and women of the faith
Come those with full or empty hands
Find the riches of his grace
Over all the world his people sing
Shore to shore we hear them call
The truth that cries through every age
Our God is all in all

   Chorus

I Can't Even Walk

I thought number one would surely be me
I thought I could be what I wanted to be
I thought I could build on life's sinking sand
But now I can't even walk without you holding my hand

   Oh Lord, I can't even walk without you holding my hand
   The mountains too high and the valleys too wide
   Down on my knees that's where I learned to stand
   Oh Lord, I can't even walk without you holding my hand

I thought I could do a lot on my own
I thought I could make it all alone
I thought of myself as a mighty big man
But Lord I can't even walk without you holding my hand

   Chorus

I think I'll make Jesus my all and all
And if I'm in trouble on his name I'll call
If I didn't trust him I'd be less of a man
'Cause Lord I can't even walk without you holding my hand

   Chorus

Oh Lord, I can't even walk without you holding my hand

He Will Hold Me Fast

When I fear my faith will fail

Christ will hold me fast

When the tempter would prevail

He will hold me fast

I could never keep my hold

Through life's fearful path

For my love is often cold

He must hold me fast

   He will hold me fast

   He will hold me fast

   For my Savior loves me so

   He will hold me fast

Those he saves are his delight

Christ will hold me fast

Precious in his holy sight

He will hold me fast

He'll not let my soul be lost

His promises shall last

Bought by him at such a cost

He will hold me fast

   Chorus

For my life he bled and died

Christ will hold me fast

Justice has been satisfied

He will hold me fast

Raised with him to endless life

He will hold me fast

'Till our faith is turned to sight

When he comes at last

   Chorus

A Warning and a Welcome

Steve Gilbertson
Matthew 11:20-30

What kind of man was Jesus? Was he fiery and demanding, or was he gentle and mild?
As we shall see in today's text, he was both. Jesus was more demanding than we ever
thought necessary, and more gentle than we ever thought possible. We may balk at
these extremes, but embracing them is the only sure path toward ultimate peace
and rest.

20 Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done,
because they did not repent. 21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the
mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long
ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment
for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You
will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom,
it would have remained until this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day
judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."

25 At that time Jesus declared, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have
hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children;
26 yes, Father for such was your gracious will. 27 All things have been handed over to me by
my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father and no one knows the Father except
the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for
I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and
my burden is light."
