We're Back!

Public Worship at 9:00 every Sunday at the Buffalo Chip

We’re so happy we can meet together again. We’ve missed you! As an act of Christian love, and in order to maintain a safe worship environment, please note the following:

• If you have cold or flu symptoms or a weakened immune system, please do not put yourself (or others) at risk. We offer live online worship on our church website so you can worship safely in your home.

• Please wear a mask while not seated.

• For your safety, our volunteers are wearing gloves and masks as they hand out bulletins and Communion. We will not be serving coffee or other treats.

• Please refrain from gathering in groups (outside of your families), and practice appropriate social distancing (no shaking hands, hugging, etc.). Please seat yourselves with 6 feet between your household and others.

• At the close of our worship gathering, please exit promptly, as the Buffalo Chip must close our entry gates as soon as possible.

If for health or other reasons, you are not able to worship with us at the Chip, we invite you to join us for our live worship broadcast each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Simply press the green tab above called "Worship Service".

Please pray with us that the virus will be contained soon, that God would grant healing to those near and far away who are affected by it, and that God would give wisdom to medical and government personnel who are on the front lines of dealing with the crisis.

We are called to faith, gathered in love
Sent with hope to change the world
We are called to faith, gathered in love

   Sent with Hope – ecclesia!

Psalm 49

1   Hear this, all peoples!
Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
2   both low and high,
           rich and poor together!
3   My mouth shall speak wisdom;
the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
4   I will incline my ear to a proverb;
I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.

5   Why should I fear in times of trouble,
when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me,

6   those who trust in their wealth
and boast of the abundance of their riches?

7   Truly no man can ransom another,
or give to God the price of his life,
8   for the ransom of their life is costly
          and can never suffice,
9   that he should live on forever
         and never see the pit.

10   For he sees that even the wise die;
the fool and the stupid alike must perish
and leave their wealth to others.
11   Their graves are their homes forever,
their dwelling places to all generations,
though they called lands by their own names.
12   Man in his pomp will not remain;
he is like the beasts that perish.

13   This is the path of those who have foolish confidence;
yet after them people approve of their boasts.
              Selah
14   Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
          death shall be their shepherd,
and the upright shall rule over them in the morning.
Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no
      place to dwell.
15    But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will receive me.    Selah

16    Be not afraid when a man becomes rich,
when the glory of his house increases.
17    For when he dies he will carry nothing away;
his glory will not go down after him.
18    For though while he lives, he counts himself blessed
-and though you get praise when you do well for yourself-
19    his soul will go to the generation of his fathers,
who will never again see light.
20    Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like
       the beasts that perish.

Come People of the Risen King

Come, people of the risen King
Who delight to bring him praise
Come all and tune your hearts to sing
To the morning star of grace
From the shifting shadows of the earth
We will lift our eyes to him
Where steady arms of mercy reach
To gather children in

   Rejoice, rejoice
   Let every tongue rejoice
   One heart, one voice
   Church at the Chip, rejoice!

Come those whose joy is morning sun
And those weeping through the night
Come those who tell of battles won
And those struggling in the fight
For his perfect love will never change
And his mercies never cease
But follow us through all our days
With the certain hope of peace

   Chorus

Come, young and old from every land
Men and women of the faith
Come those with full or empty hands
Find the riches of his grace
Over all the world his people sing
Shore to shore we hear them call
The truth that cries through every age
Our God is all in all

   Chorus

Because He Lives (Amen)

I believe in the Son
I believe in the risen One
I believe I overcome
By the power of his blood

   Amen, Amen
I'm alive, I'm alive because he lives
   Amen, Amen
Let my song join the one that never ends
   Because he lives

I was dead in the grave
I was covered in sin and shame
I heard mercy call my name
He rolled the stone away

   Chorus

(Because he lives) I can face tomorrow
Because he lives every fear is gone
I know he holds my life, my future in his hand

   Chorus (2x)
   Because he lives
   Because he lives

He Will Hold Me Fast

When I fear my faith will fail
Christ will hold me fast
When the tempter would prevail
He will hold me fast
I could never keep my hold
Through life's fearful path
For my love is often cold
He must hold me fast

 He will hold me fast
 He will hold me fast
For my Savior loves me so
   He will hold me fast

Those he saves are his delight
Christ will hold me fast
Precious in his holy sight
He will hold me fast
He'll not let my soul be lost
His promises shall last
Bought by him at such a cost
He will hold me fast

   Chorus

For my life he bled and died
Christ will hold me fast
Justice has been satisfied
He will hold me fast
Raised with him to endless life
He will hold me fast
'Till our faith is turned to sight
When he comes at last

   Chorus

Parables of the Kingdom (4): Hidden Treasures

Steve Gilbertson
Matthew 13:44-58

Jesus isn't finished telling his followers stories which illustrate what God's kingdom is like!
Today we consider parables of treasure, pearls, and another fish story. Why did Jesus tell
these stories, and what can we learn from them? We'll talk about that today.

Matthew 13:44-58

36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, "Explain
to us the parable of the weeds of the field." 37 He answered, "The one who sows the good seed is
the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds
are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end
of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so
will it be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of
his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, 42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that
place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in
the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up.
Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one
pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

47 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every
kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but
threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the
evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping
and gnashing of teeth.

51 "Have you understood all these things?" They said to him, "Yes." 52 And he said to them, "Therefore
every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings
out of his treasure what is new and what is old."

53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, 54 and coming to his
hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did
this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother
called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all his
sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57 And they took offense at him. But
Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household."
58 And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.
