We're Back!

Public Worship at 9:00 every Sunday at the Buffalo Chip

We’re so happy we can meet together again. We’ve missed you! As an act of Christian love, and in order to maintain a safe worship environment, please note the following:

• If you have cold or flu symptoms or a weakened immune system, please do not put yourself (or others) at risk. We offer live online worship on our church website so you can worship safely in your home.

• Please wear a mask while not seated.

• For your safety, our volunteers are wearing gloves and masks as they hand out bulletins and Communion. We will not be serving coffee or other treats.

• Please refrain from gathering in groups (outside of your families), and practice appropriate social distancing. Please seat yourselves with 6 feet between your household and others.

• At the close of our worship gathering, please exit promptly, as the Buffalo Chip must close our entry gates as soon as possible.

If for health or other reasons, you are not able to worship with us at the Chip, we invite you to join us for our live worship broadcast each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Simply press the green tab above called "Worship Service".

Please pray with us that the virus will be contained soon, that God would grant healing to those near and far away who are affected by it, and that God would give wisdom to medical and government personnel who are on the front lines of dealing with the crisis.

Psalm 52

1    Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
2    Your tongue plots destruction,
like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.
3    You love evil more than good,
and lying more than speaking what is right.
4    You love all words that devour,
        O deceitful tongue.

5    But God will break you down forever;
        he will snatch and tear you from your tent;

he will uproot you from the land of the living,
            Selah
6    The righteous shall see and fear,
and shall laugh at him, saying,

7    "See the man who would not make
        God his refuge,
but trusted in the abundance of his riches
and sought refuge in his own destruction!"

8    But I am like a green olive tree
        in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
        forever and ever.
9    I will thank you forever,
        because you have done it.
I will wait for your name, for it is good,
in the presence of the godly.

All the People Said Amen

You are not alone, if you are lonely
When you feel afraid, you're not the only
We are all the same, in need of mercy
To be forgiven and be free
It's all you got to lean on
But thank God it's all you need

And all the people said Amen
And all the people said Amen
Give thanks to the Lord for his love never ends
And all the people said Amen

If you think you're poor, well it don't matter
Weak or strong, we know love is what we're after
We're all broken but we're all in this together
God knows we stumble and fall
And he so loved the world he sent his son to save us all

   Chorus

Blessed are the poor in spirit who are torn apart
Blessed are the persecuted and the pure in heart
Blessed are the people hungry for another start
For theirs is the Kingdom, the Kingdom of God

   Chorus (2x)

His Mercy is More

What love could remember no wrongs we have done
Omniscient, all-knowing, he counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

   Praise the Lord!
   His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn'
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

What patience would wait as we constantly roam
What Father, so tender, is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

   Chorus

What riches of kindness he lavished on us
His blood was the payment, his life was the cost

We stood 'neath the debt we could never afford
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

   Chorus (3x)

Come as You Are

Come out of sadness from wherever you've been
Come, brokenhearted let rescue begin
Come find your mercy, O sinner come kneel
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal

   Lay down your burdens
   Lay down your shame
   All who are broken
   Lift up your face
   O wanderer, come home
   You're not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart
   Come as you are

There's hope for the hopeless
And all those who've strayed
Come sit at the table
Come taste the grace
There's rest for the weary
Rest that endures
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't cure (to chorus) ...So...

   Chorus

Come as you are
Come as you are
Fall in his arms
Come as you are

There's joy for the morning
O sinner, be still
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal

   Chorus

Prophet or Promised Messiah?
The World's True King: A Study in Matthew

Matthew 14:1-12
Steve Gilbertson

As we enter this section of Matthew, we see that the division Jesus spoke about
in his parables (ch. 13), is now seen in the growing controversy regarding Jesus'
identity. Who is he? Is he a prophet, or is he the promised Messiah? The question
about Jesus' identity looms large; we still must answer it today. What is your
answer?

Matthew 13:53-14:12

53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there,
54 and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that
they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these
mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary?
And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all
his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57 And they took
offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in
his hometown and in his own household." 58 And he did not do many mighty works
there, because of their unbelief.

14 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus, 2 and he said to
his servants, "This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why
these miraculous powers are at work in him." 3 For Herod had seized John and bound
him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, 4 because
John had been saying to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." 5 And though he wanted
to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet. 6 But
when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and
pleased Herod, 7 so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.
8 Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter."
9 And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be
given. 10 He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, 11 and his head was brought on
a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came
and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus.
