Psalm 109

1   Be not silent, O God of my praise!
2   For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me,
        speaking against me with lying tongues.
3   They encircle me with words of hate,
       and attack me without cause.
4   In return for my love they accuse me,
       but I give myself to prayer.

5   So they reward me evil for good,
       and hatred for my love.

6   Appoint a wicked man against him;
        let an accuser stand at his right hand.
7   When he is tried, let him come forth guilty;
        let his prayer be counted as sin!
8   May his days be few;
        may another take his office!
9   May his children be fatherless
        and his wife a widow!
10  May his children wander about and beg,
        seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
11  May the creditor seize all that he has;
        may strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
12  Let there be none to extend kindness to him,
        nor any to pity his fatherless children!
13  May his posterity be cut off;
        may his name be blotted out in the second generation!
14  May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
        and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out!
15  Let them be before the Lord continually,
        that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth!

16  For he did not remember to show kindness,
        but pursued the poor and needy
        and the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
17  He loved to curse; let curses come upon him!
        He did not delight in blessing may it be far from him!
18  He clothed himself with cursing as his coat;
        may it soak into his body like water,
        like oil into his bones!
19  May it be like a garment that he wraps around him,
        like a belt that he puts on every day!
20  May this be the reward of my accusers from the Lord,
        of those who speak evil against my life!

21  But you, O God my Lord,
        deal on my behalf for your name's sake;
        because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!
22  For I am poor and needy,
        and my heart is stricken within me.
23  I am gone like a shadow at evening;
        I am shaken off like a locust.
24  My knees are weak through fasting;
        my body has become gaunt, with no fat.
25  I am an object of scorn to my accusers;
        when they see me, they wag their heads.

26  Help me, O Lord my God!
        Save me according to your steadfast love!
27  Let them know that this is your hand;
        you, O Lord, have done it!
28  Let them curse, but you will bless!
        They arise and are put to shame, but your servant will be glad!
29  May my accusers be clothed with dishonor;
        may they be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!

30  With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;
        I will praise him in the midst of the throng.
31  For he stands at the right hand of the needy one,
        to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.

I've Been Changed

Well, I've been to the river, I've been baptized
I've been washed in the blood of the lamb
I've been changed from the creature that once I was
And "Redeemed" is now my name

   I've been changed
   I've been "new-born"
   All my life has been rearranged
   What a diff'rence it made
   When the Lord came and stayed in the heart
   Oh, yes, I've been changed

Though my sins were as scarlet, they're white as snow
I was bound, but today I am free
I was lost in darkness, but now am found
I was blind but now I see

   Chorus

Like the poor Hebrew children, I wandered along
In a bare desert land to and fro
But I've crossed over Jordan to Canaan's land
Where the milk and honey flow

   Chorus

When at last in his presence I stand alone
He will wipe all the tears from my eyes
And I'll thank him for giving a wretch like me
Lasting hope beyond the skies

   Chorus

Oh How I Need You

Lord, I find you in the seeking
Lord, I find you in the doubt
And to know you is to love you
And to know so little else

   I need you, oh, how I need you
   Oh, how I need you, oh, how I need you
   (repeat all)

Lord, I find you in the morning
Lord, I seek you every day
Let my life be for your glory
Woven in your threads of grace

   Oh, how I need you, oh, how I need you
   Oh, how I need you, oh, how I need you

   Oh, oh, oh, oh

Light, glorious light, I will go where you shine
Break the dawn, crack the skies
Make the way bright before me
In your light I will find
All I need, all I need is you
(repeat)

   Oh, how I need you, oh, how I need you
   Oh, how I need you, oh, how I need you

Spirit

Spirit fall fresh on me
Spirit fall fresh on me
Hear my cry, fill my life
I won't need anything but you

   I found all that I want, all that I longed for in you
   I found all that I want, all that I longed for in you
   Wasted time, is when I'm far from your truth
   I've found all that I want, all that I long for in you

Spirit, come be my joy
Spirit, come be my joy
Be my song, fill my lungs
I won't need anything but you

   Chorus

I've found all that I want, all that I long for in you
I've found all that I want, all that I long for in you
Wasted time is when I'm far from your truth
I've found all that I want, all that I long for in you

All that I want, all that I long for in you, yeah
I've found all that I want, all that I long for in you
I've found all that I want, all that I long for is you
Yes, you're all that I want, all that I longed for is you

"The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved"
John 21:20-25
Eastertide
Steve Gilbertson

John 21

"The disciple whom Jesus loved." Who is this unnamed disciple? Why is he important?
And what does that have to do with us? We'll explore these questions -- along with a
last look at Peter -- as we conclude our Lenten and Eastertide series in the Gospel
according to John. For as we shall see, we, too, are the disciples whom Jesus loves.

21 After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he
revealed himself in this way. 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana
in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. 3 Simon
Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will go with you." They went
out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it
was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, "Children, do you have any fish?" They answered him, "No."
6 He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they
cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7 That disciple
whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was
the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the
sea. 8 The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far
from the land, but about a hundred yards off.

9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread.
10 Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish that you have just caught." 11 So Simon Peter went
aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many,
the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." Now none of the disciples
dared ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and
gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the
disciples after he was raised from the dead.

15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me
more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my
lambs." 16 He said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes,
Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." 17 He said to him the third time,
"Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you
love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him,
"Feed my sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk
wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you
and carry you where you do not want to go." 19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to
glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, "Follow me."

20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned
back against him during the supper and had said, "Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?" 21 When
Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?" 22 Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that
he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!" 23 So the saying spread abroad among the
brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, "If it
is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?"

24 This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and
we know that his testimony is true.

25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose
that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
