Psalm 125
1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time forth and forevermore.
3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
on the land allotted to the righteous,
lest the righteous stretch out
their hands to do wrong.
4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
and to those who are upright in their hearts!
5 But those who turn aside to their crooked ways
the Lord will lead away with evildoers!
Peace be upon Israel!
God So Loved the World
Come all you weary, come all you thirsty
Come to the well that never runs dry
Drink of the water, come and thirst no more
Come all you sinners, come find his mercy
Come to the table, he will satisfy
Taste of his goodness, find what you're looking for
For God so loved the world that he gave us
His one and only Son to save us
Whoever believes in him will live forever
Bring all your failures, bring your addictions
Come lay them down at the foot of the cross
Jesus is waiting there with open arms (see his open arms)
Chorus
The power of hell forever defeated
Now it is well, I'm walking in freedom
For God so loved, God so loved the world
Praise God, praise God
From whom all blessings flow
Praise him, praise him
For the wonders of his love
(repeat)
For God so loved the world that he gave us
His one and only Son to save
Chorus
The power of hell forever defeated
Now it is well, I'm walking in freedom
For God so loved, God so loved the world
Bring all your failures, bring your addictions
Come lay them down at the foot of the cross
Jesus is waiting
God so loved the world
Abide with Me
I have a home, eternal home
But for now I walk this broken world
You walked it first, you know our pain
But you show hope can rise again up from the grave
Abide with me, abide with me
Don't let me fall, and don't let go
Walk with me, and never leave
*Ever close, God abide with me
(repeat last time)
There in the night, Gethsemane
Before the cross, before the nails
Overwhelmed, alone you prayed
You met us in our suffering and bore our shame
Chorus
Oh love that will not ever let me go
Love that will not ever let me go
You never let me go
Love that will not ever let me go
And up ahead, eternity
We'll weep no more and sing for joy, abide with me
We'll weep no more and sing for joy, abide with me
Chorus
Beautiful, Scandalous Night
Go on up the mountain of mercy
To the crimson perpetual tide
Kneel down on the shore
Be thirsty no more
Go under and be purified
Follow Christ to the holy mountain
Sinner sorry and wrecked by the fall
Cleanse your heart and your soul
In the mountain that flowed
For you and for me and for all
At the wonderful, tragic, mysterious tree
On that beautiful, scandalous night you and me
We're atoned by his blood and forever washed white
On that beautiful, scandalous night
On the hillside, you will be delivered
At the foot of the cross justified
And your spirit restored by the river that poured
From our blessed Savior's side
Chorus
The Fateful Question
Matthew 26:57-68
The World's True King: A Study in Matthew
Steve Gilbertson
Jesus has been brought before the high priest, who says, "I adjure you by the living
God, tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God." Here for the first time (and under
oath!), Jesus must respond to the direct question. This is the climactic moment toward
which Matthew has been building his presentation of Jesus as "the world's true king."
Jesus' response will seal his fate. It seals our fate, too.
Matthew 26:57-68 (ESV)
57 Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and
the elders had gathered. 58 And Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard
of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief
priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him
to death, 60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came
forward 61 and said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in
three days.'" 62 And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it
that these men testify against you?" 63 But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him,
"I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." 64 Jesus said to him,
"You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at he right hand
of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven." 65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He
has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy.
66 What is your judgment?" They answered, "He deserves death." 67 Then they spit in his face and
struck him. And some slapped him, 68 saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?"
