ecclesia song

We are called to faith, gathered in love
Sent with hope to change the world
We are called to faith, gathered in love
ecclesia, ecclesia, Church at the Chip

Called to Faith, Gathered in Love,
   Sent with Hope – ecclesia!

Psalm 131

1   O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
        my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
2   But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
        like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.

3   O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore.

All the People Said Amen

You are not alone, if you are lonely
When you feel afraid, you're not the only
We are all the same, in need of mercy
To be forgiven and be free
It's all you got to lean on
But thank God it's all you need

And all the people said Amen
And all the people said Amen
Give thanks to the Lord for his love never ends
And all the people said Amen

If you think you're poor, well it don't matter
Weak or strong, we know love is what we're after
We're all broken but we're all in this together
God knows we stumble and fall
And he so loved the world he sent his Son to save us all

   Chorus

Blessed are the poor in spirit who are torn apart
Blessed are the persecuted and the pure in heart
Blessed are the people hungry for another start
For theirs is the Kingdom, the Kingdom of God

   Chorus (2x)

Were You There

Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
O sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord

Were you there when they nailed him to the tree
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree
O sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree

Were you there when they laid him in the tomb
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb
O sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb

His Mercy is More

What love could remember no wrongs we have done
Omniscient, all-knowing, he counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

   Praise the Lord!
   His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

What patience would wait as we constantly roam
What Father, so tender, is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

   Chorus

What riches of kindness he lavished on us
His blood was the payment, his life was the cost
We stood 'neath the debt we could never afford
Our sins, they are many, his mercy is more

   Chorus (3x)

God in the Grave
Matthew 27:55-66
The World's True King: A Study in Matthew

Steve Gilbertson

Following Jesus' death on the cross, Matthew takes care to tell us the
circumstances surrounding his burial: who was present, where it occurred,
concerns of the priests, guards at the grave. Considering the paucity of
details surrounding his crucifixion, we are a bit surprised. Why does Matthew
include this? And what are we to make of the day in between - the Sabbath
rest of Jesus? We'll talk about that this morning.

Matthew 27:55-66 (ESV)

55 There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed
Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him, 56 among whom were Mary Magdalene and
Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who
also was a disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then
Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a
clean linen shroud 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And
he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene
and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.

62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees
gathered before Pilate 63 and said, "Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he
was still alive, 'After three days I will rise.' 64 Therefore order the tomb to be made secure
until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, 'He has risen
from the dead,' and the last fraud will be worse than the first." 65 Pilate said to them, "You
have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can." 66 So they went and made the
tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.
