Psalm 132
1 Remember, O Lord, in David's favor,
all the hardships he endured,
2 how he swore to the Lord
and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 "I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob."
6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;
we found it in the fields of Jaar.
7 "Let us go to his dwelling place;
let us worship at his footstool!"
8 Arise, O Lord, and go to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your saints shout for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not turn away the face of your anointed one.
11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
"One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my testmonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever
shall sit on your throne."
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:
14 "This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 Her priests I will clothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.
17 There I will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
18 His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine."
Empty Grave (Chorus)
Oh I see an empty grave
I hear the heavens waking
Angels in jubilation
That stone's been rolled away
I feel the darkness breaking
I bet the devil's shaking
Somebody celebrate
I see an empty grave
Ain't No Grave (Gonna Hold My Body Down)
There ain't no grave can hold my body down
There ain't no grave can hold my body down
When I hear that trumpet sound
I'm gonna rise right out of the ground
Ain't no grave can hold my body down
Well, look down yonder, Gabriel
Put your feet on land and sea
But Gabriel, don't you blow your trumpet 'til you hear it from me
Well, look way down the river
What do you think I see
I see a band of angels, and they're coming after me
Chorus
Well, meet me, Jesus, meet me
Meet me in the air
And if these wings don't fail me
I will meet you anywhere
I'm going down to the river of Jordan
Bury my knees beneath the sand
Gonna holler high hosanna 'til I see that promised land
Chorus
Well, look way down the river
What do you think I see
I see a band of angels, and they're coming after me
Chorus
Ain't No Grave
O my Lord, it's a winding road
It's all bent from a heavy load
Feel the weight beneath the ground
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
O my Lord, I can barely sing
Waiting for you and your reckoning
Angels humming, can you hear the sound
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
I will rise, I will rise, I will rise, I will rise
Troubles come for everyone
Death has no respect for love
Roll that stone I won't be found
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
Lord, I'm crooked from head to toe
Got dirty hands and a dirty soul
I was lost but now I'm found
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
Chorus
Woah, Woah, Woah
Feel the weight beneath the ground
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
Chorus
Woah, Woah, Woah
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
Ain't no grave gonna hold me down
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!
Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him, rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened Paradise, Alleluia!
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting, Alleluia!
Dying once he all doth save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave, Alleluia!
Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him, we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
A Tale of Two Stories
Matthew 28:1-15
The World's True King: A Study in Matthew
Steve Gilbertson
When the women come to Jesus' tomb on "the first day of the week," they
expected to find a dead body. Instead, they found an empty tomb, a bright
angel, and the resurrected Jesus. That, at least is what they said. Soldiers
and priests told a different story: Jesus' body was stolen. Which story best
accords with the facts? Which story is most likely to be true? Which story do
you believe?
Matthew 28:1-15 (ESV)
28 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was
a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came
and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and
his clothing white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became
like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know
that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he
said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples
that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee;
there you will see him. See, I have told you." 8 So they departed quickly from the
tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met
them and said, "Greetings!" And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped
him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to
Galilee, and there they will see me."
11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the
chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders
and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, "Tell
people, 'His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.' 14 And if
this comes to the governor's ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." 15 So
they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among
the Jews to this day.
